Photos for connotation

Connotation from Photos

Fear : We decided to use a low angle shot to look up to me and Will in this photo. By using this shot it creates an intimidating feel and puts fear into the viewers mind. Also we decided on using shadows on the faces of me and Will, this creates a blurred line between a good or bad character, by doing this it creates an intriguing mood and the uncertainty that the characters could be creating fear.

Purity : For this we decided to use colours to connote a meaning. Purity is often associated with the colour white. We decided that the severe contrast between the white t-shirt and the black tarmac provides a sense of uncertainty and whether to be pure or not.

Greed : Here we have a picture of me and Will. Will on the left has 4 sweets compared to my measly 1. He is not willing to share and it connotes greed from this simple photo.

Desire : Here we have Ellis up against a vending machine who is looking rather glum. The desirable goods in the vending machine are waiting to be consumed but Ellis is not able to get them. The facial expression Ellis has created connotes the feeling of desire. We were able to capture the emotion by taking the photo at eye level.

Strength : The camera angle and shot distance are key to making this photo connote the feeling of strength. The medium shot distance enables both background and expression to be captured. Also, we decided to use a low angle shot to look up to Ellis and Will, this makes them both look intimidating

Poverty : We have used a high angle shot here to make myself look insignificant, something that is often associated with poverty. Will is walking past me with not much care, something that is all to common with modern society, it seems poverty is looked down upon. We have used a long shot to capture both me and Will and also the background.

Love : We have used a medium shot here as this is all we need in the shot. We shot the photo at eye level meaning the emotion can be shown and the embracement of the hug can be exploited.

Weakness : We once again shot this photo at eye level to show the emotion on Ellis' face. The use of the mirror also adds a different perspective to the photo which I really like. We used a close up shot here to really capture the emotion of weakness on Ellis's face.

Loneliness: In this photo we decided to use an extreme long shot to show the severity of loneliness and how Ellis has so little around him. We decided to use a high angle to look down upon Ellis to make him look insignificant.

Wealth : Wealth is usually associated with money hence why we have used a close up to show the detail on the £10 note. The depth of field creates a focused foreground and blurry background to exploit the detail on the note.

Fear : We used a medium shot here to capture both me and Will and also the background to show that there is no one around to save Will from my incoming punch. We used an eye level shot to capture the emotion both of our faces.

Friendship : We used an extreme close up here to show the handshake, which is typically used when meeting and to show respect. It was important we used the extreme close up to make sure the only body part we captured was the hands that were locked together.
